The University of Georgia's Ballroom Social and Dance Club offers free lessons every Sunday evening at 5 PM in the Memorial Hall Ballroom (Room 211). Absolutely NO experience is necessary. You don't even need to bring your own partner!
Just wear whatever you're comfortable in! Men typically wear a t-shirt with shorts or jeans. Women can wear the same or change it up by wearing a skirt! Flat shoes with a not-too-strong grip are preferred, but if you have dancing shoes, feel free to wear them!
Waltz
A waltz is typically danced to a slow tempo song that is in a 3/4 time signature. It is danced in closed frame between a leader and a follower. Most moves happen as 3-counts (think 1-2-3, 4-5-6). Moves include inside turns, outside turns, push-outs, promenades, spins, dips, and more.
East Coast Swing
East Coast Swing can be done several ways. There is a common 1-step style (think on beats, 'step, step, rock-step'). This is usually done for beginners and rather fast tempo songs. There is also triple-step style that can be done to add flair to the dance (think on beats, 'triple-step, triple-step, rock-step'). Moves include inside turns, outside turns, bridges, American spins, sugar pushes, dips, and more.
Cha Cha
A typical cha cha step takes place over 8 counts. Remember to think 'one, two, three, cha-cha-four, five, six, cha-cha-one...' As a latin dance, the frame is closed. The dance itself is very strong. This is achieved through crisp, sharp movements. Moves include inside turns, outside turns, cross-over breaks, the chase, free spins, and more.

Rumba
Rumba is a Latin dance that comes in an American and International varieties. American is most typically taught and involves the same box step seen in Waltz, but with less lift and more hips. Rumba is often done to slower music that usually matches the tune of a slow Cha-Cha.
